A Taste of the Italian Baroque

The first concert of the season includes Handel's Dixit Dominus, written in 1707 when he was in Rome, with Canadian soloists Gillian Keith, Soprano; Daniel Taylor, Counter-tenor and an internationally renowned baroque orchestra. The concert highlights both a Baroque repertoire by Italian composers and those inspired by the Venetian style. Works by the Italians Gabrieli, Monteverdi, A. Scarlatti and Martini will be performed as well as compositions by Germans influenced by this style, namely Schütz, Handel and Scheidt. Bach's double choir motet, Der Geist hilft, completes the programme.
