Ottawa Bach Choir performs season’s final concert “Miserere”
Ottawa (Canada) – The Ottawa Bach Choir (OBC) will perform Miserere, the final concert of its eighth subscription seasonon Sunday, March 21, 2010, 7:30 pm, at Knox Presbyterian Church, 120 Lisgar Street. The OBC, Ottawa’s professional chamber choir under the direction of Lisette Canton, will present inspiring music for Passiontide from the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods. The concert’s programme will feature Tomás Luis de Victoria’s strikingly beautiful Officium Defunctorum as well as works by Allegri, Byrd, Gallus, Schütz and Johann Ludwig Bach, and will be accompanied by a superb continuo on period instruments.
“This rarely heard music from the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods will give Ottawa audiences a chance to experience some of the most beautiful choral music ever written,” says Founder and Artistic Director, Dr. Lisette Canton. “Listeners will be moved and inspired by the inimitable ways in which these remarkable composers express the pathos of this universal theme.”
The Ottawa Bach Choir, which has received both national and international acclaim, was founded in 2002 by Lisette Canton and consists of some of the top choristers from the National Capital Region and beyond. Highlights from the choir’s successful Christmas Around the World concert were recently featured on Radio Canada’s Espace Musique and CBC Radio 2. With the combination of a scholarly and emotional approach, the Choir hopes to provide an unforgettable experience of choral music at its best. For interviews and information, please contact:
